Wale Tinubu is a Nigerian businessman and oil tycoon. He sits atop one of Nigeria’s foremost oil company, Ocean and Oil PLC., known popularly as Oando PLC.
Mr Wale Tinubu has been a point of attack for some weeks after Nigerians linked him to a petroleum blending terminal Ras Hanzir in Malta.
This is coming in the wake of Dangote Refineries crude oil supply crisis. Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Refineries made some allegations that top officials of Nigeria’s apex oil corporation NNPC, selected oil companies and few elites were exporting crude oil to a blending plant in Malta and in turn importing substandard fuel.
Earlier in the week, Oando PLC also completed the purchase of Nigerian Agip Oil Company, a subsidiary of Italian giant Eni SPA.

Early Life and Background
Jubril Adewale Tinubu was born on the 26th of June, 1967 in Lagos, South Western Nigeria.
It is no doubt that Adewale is a nephew to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Educational Journey
Adewale started his primary education and proceeded to the Federal Government College Odogbolu, where he obtained his Senior School Leaving Certificate.
He proceeded to the University of Liverpool to pursue a Law degree and also got a Masters of Law from the prestigious London School of Economics.
Young Adewale attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to bar in 1990.
Career Milestones and Achievements
Adewale’s career journey started in 1992 as an Attorney with his specialty in corporate and petroleum law.
In 1993, he co-founded Ocean and Oil Group, one of the first indigenous trading companies with extensive operations exporting Nigerian petroleum products.
Under his leadership, Ocean and Oil Group was rebranded to Oando PLC in 2003.
Oando became the first African company to have a cross-border inward listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
Wale Tinubu successfully transformed Oando from a petroleum marketing company to an integrated energy group, covering downstream, midstream, and upstream sectors.
Some of his Innovations worthy of note is his pioneering of the development of the first privately owned mid-stream jetty in West Africa within Oando’s portfolio.
Awards and Recognition
Some of Wale Tinubu’s awards and Recognitions include;
2015 ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ West Africa by Ernst & Young for his contributions to the African Oil and Gas industry.
‘African Business Leader of the Year’ award from Africa Investor in 2011 and was recognized as a ‘Global Young Leader’ by the World Economic Forum in 2007.
Recent Achievements
In 2019, Oando successfully divested Oando Marketing Limited to the Vitol Group and Helios Investment Partner, resulting in the formation of OVH Energy.
OVH Energy has the largest distribution footprint in Nigeria, with over 1,500 trucks, 50 million liters in tank storage capacity, and over 400 retail station outlets.
Under Mr Wale’s administration, Oando also acquired Nigerian Agip Oil Company, a subsidiary of Eni Spa.
