Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Bank PLC has reportedly passed on today. He was said to have died alongside 5 others whom part of them were hinted to be his wife and 2 kids.

Born on August 15, 1966, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Herbert Wigwe discovered his passion for finance at an early age. His journey began with a degree in accountancy from the University of Nigeria. Eager to expand his horizons, he pursued an MA in Banking and Finance from the University College of North Wales (now Bangor) and an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of London. Herbert’s thirst for knowledge led him to the prestigious Harvard Business School Executive Management Program.

The Rise of Access Bank

In 2002, Herbert Wigwe and his business partner, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, made a pivotal decision. They acquired a small commercial bank, Access Bank, which was then the 65th largest among Nigeria’s 89 banks. Little did they know that this strategic move would transform Access Bank into one of Nigeria’s top five banks. Today, Access Bank boasts over 6.5 million account holders, with a network of 350 branches and 1,500 ATMs across Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the UK.
