Early Life and Background

Deepika Kumari was born on the 13th of June, 1994. She is an accomplished Indian archer who has made her impacts on the global stage.

Deepika hails from Ratu Chatti village in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

Her father, Shivnarayan Mahato, worked as an auto-rickshaw driver, while her mother, Geeta Mahato, served as a nurse at Ranchi Medical College.

Despite financial constraints, Deepika’s determination led her to practice archery using homemade bamboo bows and arrows.

She joined the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur in 2006, where she gained access to proper equipment and uniforms for the first time.

Career Highlights

Deepika won the 11th Youth World Archery Championship in Ogden, USA, in 2009 when she was just 15 years old.

At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, she secured gold medals in both the women’s individual recurve event and the team recurve event (alongside Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi).

She reclaimed the world number one ranking after nine years during the Paris World Cup in 2021.
