Elvis Presley, known fully as Elvis Aaron Presley was born on the 8th of January, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was an American singer and actor widely known as the “King of Rock and Roll”. He remains one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century.

Elvis grew up in humble circumstances, raised by his working-class parents, Vernon and Gladys. Despite their financial struggles, he developed a strong faith in God and attended the Assembly of God Church, where gospel music left a lasting impact on him. His musical journey began when his mother gifted him a guitar on his 11th birthday in 1946. A few years later, he won a talent show at Humes High School in Memphis, marking his first taste of success.

In 1954, Elvis signed with Sun Records, working with producer Sam Phillips. His fusion of country music and rhythm and blues, known as rockabilly, caught the attention of audiences. Accompanied by lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Elvis became a pioneer in this genre. His debut single, “Heartbreak Hotel”, released in January 1956, soared to number one on the charts, and RCA Victor soon sold millions of his singles. His electrifying performances and controversial style made him both a sensation and a perceived threat to the moral well-being of white American youth.

Film Career and Legacy

Elvis made his film debut in “Love Me Tender” in November 1956. Drafted into military service in 1958, he continued his recording career upon returning, achieving commercial success. His energized interpretations of songs and provocative stage presence solidified his status as a rock and roll icon.

Death, Cause of Death

Elvis passed away tragically on the 16th of August, 1977 at the age of 42 due to heart failure related to drug addiction.
