Early Life

Meera was born on the 29th of January, 1982 in Mumbai, Maharashtra into a Tamil Brahmin family.

She is the eldest daughter of Vasudevan and Hemalatha. Her younger sister, Ashwini, gained fame as a child artist in the Salman Khan-starrer Jaanam Samjha Karo. After completing her bachelor’s degree in arts, with a focus on psychology and English literature, Meera embarked on a successful modeling career. She appeared in numerous advertising films, catapulting her to fame. Notably, the ICC Setmax campaign marked her entry into the world of acting .

Career

Meera’s journey in the film industry began with the 2003 Hindi satirical film Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula, where she starred alongside Milind Soman. Despite facing four years of failed screen tests, her breakthrough came when the Setmax advert, directed by Prahlad Kakkar, won the best ad campaign of the year. This caught the attention of director Parvati Balagopalan’s mother, leading to Meera’s screen test for Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula. Her performance earned her nominations for best upcoming actress at the Screen Awards and Sansui – PNC Awards.

In the same year, Meera made her debut in the Tamil film industry with Unnai Saranadainthen, directed by Samuthirakani. Her portrayal of Bobby, an adamant village girl, garnered critical acclaim and earned her the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actress. She continued her journey across languages, appearing in Telugu films like Golmaal and Malayalam films like Thanmathra, where she played the role of Lekha Ramesan, a housewife and mother of two children. Her performance in Thanmathra received positive reviews, and she was honored with the Best Female New Face Award at the 2005 Ujala-Asianet Awards.

Meera’s filmography includes other notable works such as Jerry (Tamil), where she portrayed a police inspector, and Oruvan (Malayalam), where she again played the role of a housewife. She continued to act in Malayalam-language films like Ekantham, Valmeekam, and Kaakki, as well as Hindi-language films like Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii and Thodi Life Thoda Magic.

Marriage and Divorce

Meera Vasudevan has been married three times. Her first marriage was to Vishal Agarwal in 2005, which ended in divorce in 2008. She then married John Kokken in 2012, but they divorced in 2016. Most recently, she tied the knot with cinematographer Vipin Puthiyankam in 2024. Meera is currently playing the lead role of Sumithra in the popular Malayalam soap opera Kudumbavilakku, which airs on Asianet.
