Upon completing his secondary education in 1989, Mithika pursued a course in accounting (CPA) at Meru Technical College. His quest for knowledge didn’t stop there; he furthered his education at the Kenya Institute of Marketing, where he obtained a Diploma in Marketing, and at the College of Insurance, where he earned a certificate in insurance.

Political Involvement and Career

Linturi’s political journey is equally noteworthy. He was first elected to office in 2007 as the area MP on a KANU ticket. Despite facing challenges and initial setbacks in his earlier political attempts, he demonstrated perseverance and was eventually elected as the senator for Meru County in the 2017 Kenyan General election on a Jubilee Party ticket. Before his tenure as senator, he served as a Member of Parliament, representing the Igembe South Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election, a position he retained until 2017.

Mithika was married to fellow politician Marianne Jebet Kitany who was the Chief of Staff to Kenyan Vice President William Ruto in 2016. The couple got married in 2015 and divorced in 2019.

Linturi’s Impeachment Controversy

Mithika Linturi has been subjected to an impeachment motion due to a scandal involving fake fertilizer.

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the National Assembly approved an impeachment motion against CS Linturi.

Allegations: He is accused of incompetence and mismanagement of resources, particularly concerning the supply of substandard fertilizer under the government subsidy program.

DCI Investigation: The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned Linturi for questioning over his involvement in the fake fertilizer scandal.

Parliamentary Vote: Out of 188 MPs present, 149 voted in favor of the impeachment motion, while 36 opposed, and 3 abstained.

An 11-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations further and will report back to the National Assembly within ten days.
