Early Life and Background
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was born on September 4, 1942, to Pa Bernard Iwuanyanwu and Madam Hulder Iwuanyanwu in Umuohii Atta, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. Despite being born into a humble family, he emerged as a respected politician, businessman, and philanthropist in Nigeria. His grandfather, Iwuanyanwu, was a war commander who led native warriors into battle.
Education
Iwuanyanwu attended St. Patrick’s School in Nkpokwu (later renamed Rukpokwu), Port Harcourt, for his early education. He continued his studies at Holy Trinity Primary School in Umuapara (later renamed Rumuapara) and later attended New Bethel College in Onitsha, Anambra State.
In 1960, he studied Pure and Applied Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at the Federal School of Science in Lagos. Subsequently, he pursued Civil Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Military Experience
The Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) interrupted Iwuanyanwu’s studies. He was drafted into the Biafra Research and Production (RaP) Directorate, where he served in the Rocket Unit.
Despite limited access to armaments, this group of researchers produced essential amenities and armaments, including the dreaded Ogbunigwe. Iwuanyanwu later served as a soldier, rising to the rank of captain in the secessionist forces of Biafra.
Cause of Death
Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu passed away due to complications related to prostate cancer, leaving a significant void in Nigeria’s business and political communities.
