Gboyega Soyannwo, the Deputy Chief of Staff to Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been announced dead.
This was made official by the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotosho.
Early Life and Educational Background
Gboyega Soyannwo was born on the 3rd of October, 1968. He began his education at Corona School Victoria Island in Lagos from 1974 to 1980. He then attended the prestigious Kings College in Lagos for his secondary education from 1980 to 1985. After completing his A-Levels at the Federal School of Arts and Science in 1987, he pursued higher education at the University of Lagos, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) Degree in Economics.
Mr. Soyannwo also held an MBA (General Management) from the renowned Lagos Business School.
Career and Achievements
Mr Gboyega’s career started on a well defined and dedicated path as a Youth Corps member at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1992.
He later worked in various capacities at institutions such as Financial Services Consultants Limited, STACO Insurance Plc., National Bank of Nigeria Limited (now WEMA Bank Plc.), Zenith Bank Plc., and Oceanic Bank International Plc. (now Eco Bank Plc.).
He was known for his strategic leadership and successful management, particularly for leading a team of young bankers to pioneer a Strategic Banking Unit to optimal profitability within an 18-month window. His career spanned over thirty-one years in banking, financial services, general management, and strategy. Mr. Soyannwo served as the immediate-past Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) of the Lagos State Governor from 2019 to 2023
Cause of Death
According to the Lagos Information commissioner’s statement, Soyannwo died on the 15th of May, after a brief illness, at the age of 55.
Wife, Children and Family
Gboyega Soyannwo is survived by his wife, Yewande Soyannwo, and two children. The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed his condolences, describing the loss as sudden and devastating.
