Viktor Axelsen was born on the 4th of January, 1994, in Odense, Denmark, to parents Henrik Axelsen and Gitte Lundager.
His father introduced him to badminton at the Odense badminton club when he was just six years old.
After his parents’ divorce, he lived with his father and later moved to Copenhagen at the age of 17 to join the national team.
His father, who previously ran an advertising agency, now manages Viktor’s career, while his mother owns a shop in central Odense.
Career and Achievements
Viktor Axelsen is a two-time World Champion, defeating Lin Dan whom he regards as his idol in the 2017 final and Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the 2022 final.
He is also the reigning Olympic Champion, having defeated Chen Long in the final of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In 2010, he won the World Junior Championships, becoming the only non-Asian singles player to achieve this title.
Axelsen has held the third-longest reign as the world number one in men’s singles since October 7, 2022, trailing only Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan.
